Tango Events
The best things in life are free like our site and with no registering, no login on and no gimmicky adverts or irritating popups / features whatsoever + open to everyone and a breeze to contribute (once setup & plugins etc installed) public Facebook events. Simplicity at the heart of the matter
What's more we are part of a wider Tango "community project" which aims to spread Tango♡ and bring our successful Tango calendar resource made famous by the gang responsible for the [London Tango Calendar] to communties across the globe who like to share their events with Tanguer@s far & wide. happy days ♡
Due to the sheer number taking place across Europe and beyond it can become difficult to keep track of everything and to plan ahead. To help visualise & prioritise events according to preferences we have decided to split events and categorise them into distinctive calendars by event type. This alone improves the selection process and makes it easier to find & choose appropriate events. There are further options to narrow down the selection, but more on this later, for now here are our event calendars.
Featured Events
We have brought together all the Featured Events from every one of our calendars and made them super easy to search & filter.
Pictures tell a story and discovering Tango events has never been more appealing not to mention easier then before.
Featured EventsAs the name suggests these events feature non stop dancing, often all day & late into the night. So called "Afterparties" starting in the early hours of the morning with finishes around breakfast time are not uncommon. It is hardly surprising that these events tend to be popular with what can generally be described a younger crowd brimming with vitality.
Limited amount of participants, usually gender balanced and held in larger venues with ample space for dancers.
Similar to Marathons these events feature non stop dancing although they tend to finish slightly earlier and are frequented by a crowd who prefer a sustained close embrace. This is not a bad thing as the dance floor can feel a little crowded at times.
Again a limited amount of participanats for these events which generally tend to be entirely gender balanced. On the whole the musical focus seems to be orientated more towards the "traditional" side of things.
Festivals are usually large Tango events with greater capacity and as such are probably easier to get into if you are new on the scene or not as yet all that well known among Tango circles.
These events tend to have a selection of Tango "Maestros" giving workshops during the day and "show" performances in the evening. Live music by modern orchestras is also a trend these days and Marathon like "Afterparties" in the early hours of the morning are also common nowadays.
Cannot make your mind up about what event to go for or trouble finding events? Perhaps what you need is a peak at our comprehensive calendar
And if you are looking for more that just a Tango trip combining dancing with a vacation.
Tango Holidays
A Tango Holiday is more than just a Tango event, it is a holiday in its own right. Good examples are Mediteranean beach destinations, a mountain retreat or perhaps a fairytale castle getaway.
In each case if you take away the Tango you are still left with a holiday.
Tango HolidaysNota bene: It is early days for our site and to start the [Tango Holidays] calendar may appear quite thin or even empty for months other than summer.
No matter what your preferences, choosing the right event calendar to start together with additional filters will narrow your selection and hopefully make it easier for you to choose the best event for you. So if you fancy heading to sunny climates you can either check out our Tango Holidays calendar or you can pick your prefered calendar and opt to choose one of the filter options available by clicking the Filter Calendar button and e.g. choose "Southern" under the Europe section or possibly "Asia" as the destination.
On the other hand if you absolutely want to see all available event data at once you can either use our [Full Monty] calendar which holds all event types (apart from "Holidays" which are duplicated from one of the 3 main calendars) and decide to filter to your hearts content either by Region or Event type or a combination of the two. The flexibility is there and the choice is yours.
Full Monty
Of course we never expected everyone to agree with our approach. We knew for sure that some of you would not approve of the whole catergorise & narrow down by type approach, not to mention the additional option to also fitler by region if need be.
So naturally as we never really expected you all to agree with us we just had to add this final option for all you pantomaths out there.
Here is the full monty.
All EventsRestricted Events
Another group of events worth mentioning & talking about are the "Closed Group" kind that seem to be spreading like the plague.
There seems to be an increasing trend among some organisers to close off their events to members only. And a few of them no longer publicly promote certain events at all, whether due to popularity or selectiveness. We are not exactly thrilled about this, but at the same time we look at some other websites who create "unofficial" entries for such events and draw the conclusion that both approaches are just as abhorrent.
However informing of their presence is another matter. After all they are not "secret" groups and have an online presence & usually a mechanism for joining. As such gathering the small amount of publicly known information seems rather agreeable by comparison and that is what we have decided to do.
"Restricted / Closed Group" events
There is an increasing number of events that operate under what we refer to as "Restricted" or "Closed Group". Predominantly Encuentro and also an increasing number of popular Marathon organisers no longer advertise in a public manner.
Now there could be a variety of reasons for this including perhpas "not wanting to turn so many people away", but we do not want to dwelve on this. Instead we encourage you to look elsewhere first, at the large number of events that cater to the general public and prefer an open policy.
Even so anyone who feels obliged to know more about these "Restricted / Closed Groups" events or wants to contact them directly may read on.
Read MoreGeneral advice: In any case no matter what type of event you decide on it is probably best to keep an eye out for those all important events dates & remember it is always better to plan well ahead with any events as not only do you increase your chances of making the cut, you also get better value by booking in advance.
Data Quality & Posting Introduction
Tango Events are added to our calendars by importing original Facebook data (events) with a simple to use [ Chrome / Firefox ] extension. Everyone is welcome to contribute, support and grow this community resource which is run entirely for and by Tango dancers.
Using original data generally improves quality, prevents duplication and this automated process also simplifies tasks and effort involved.
Being able to share original data in calendars like ours also reaches out to anyone without a Facebook acount or those who do not like to use Facebook for whatever reason. We only approve of using data already in the public domain so it is already possible to find this data. That is if you know where to look, but having it all in one place is so much more convenient. It is even possible to link back to original Facebook events without an account (although your view is likely to be blocked by an annoying popup) as it is "public" data after all. The only time a Facebook account is actually required is for using Facebook functionality e.g. searching events scattered across various groups etc, but that is the beauty of it, here you get to see all the Facebook event data in one handy & easy to use location outside Facebook where you are in control.
And we promise not to bombard you with constant adverts and believe us when we say that we have no interest in your personal preferenaces nor do we intend to track your activities or personal data, we simply aim to provide a valuable community resource that we ourselves intend on using. happy days ♡
