Our Posting Guide
All our Calendars contain original public Facebook data (events) importing using a simple to use [Chrome / Firefox] extension.
It really could not be any simpler to import data into our [Calendars].
We just need to set you up on our system and get you to install & use the approved browser plugins.
This guide provides best practises & requirements for organisers or local Tanguer@s who want to contribue events to our Calendars.
Posting Prerequisites
[ Overview ]
A: Not much actually. Here is a general list of requirements:
- We need to grant permission to Calendars (Google account req.) you plan on using & for that we need some basic details & consent from you ( see "Your Details" section below )
- You need to use a Chrome extension called Checker Plus for Google Calendar™ or equivalent Firefox Add-on (hint: click appropriate download link)
- Due to a number of good reasons our focus is on importing public Facebook data (events) and as such you will also need Facebook access.
Almost forgot to mention another important point, well actually 3 teeny-weeny related points:
You absolutely need to familiarise yourself with our Ground Rules aka the Do's and Don'ts and you have to agree to abide by them at all times and only apply to become a contributor if you are:
A ) a Tango dancer who knows the relevant Tango scene well
B ) there is NO CONFLICT of INTEREST whatsoever e.g. no affiliation with another competing website / organisation etc (if unsure please contact us) and
C ) plan to support and/or grow this community resource with only your best intentions at ♡
Apart from these reasonable expectations it's as easy as ABC!
Posting Rules
[ Do's & Don'ts ] our posting ground rules
Important criteria for deciding which calendar to use and what is permissible.
Before you rush ahead consider a few things first, in particular which calendars you should be posting in (if at all).
We have three main calendar: [ Marathon ], [ Encuentro;], [ Festival ] as well as a separate [ Tango Holidays ] calendar. It may very well seem obvious which calendar to use. However we better set some reasonable ground rules to answer any questions that may arise.
The gerneral rule of thumb is post only one event in any one of the 3 main calendars and no duplicates are allowed, unless the event also meets additional criteria for inclusion into the [ Tango Holidays ] calendar. Otherwise there are no exceptions, one event at anytime, anywhere. Simples!
Each tab below contains important cirteria for each Calendar. Please click & review all the tabs thoroughly before deciding on which calendars to use.
Marathon
This calendar is for Marathon events only!- As the name suggests these events feature non stop dancing, often all day & late into the night.
- There are no workshops, no interupitons or performances of any kind. If the event features anything other than dancing it is not a true Marathon and should be listed elsewhere.
Encuentro
This calendar is for Encuentro events only!- Similar to Marathons these events feature non stop dancing and the main difference is that dancers who frequent these events have a preference for sustained close embrace dancing and a more "traditional" musical repertoire. Also a stricter gender balance policy usually applies.
Festival
Festivals tend to be large events that have a selection of Tango "Maestros" giving workshops during the day and "show" performances in the evening. Live music by modern orchestras is also a common trend and perhaps even Marathon like "Afterparties" in the early hours of the morning. More recently there is also a trend to try to run a "Marathon" like event alongside or in combination with the Festival, but there is no mistake these events are clearly Festivals and treated as such for our purpose. The Festival calendar is where they need to reside.
Tango Holidays
A Tango Holiday is more than just a Tango event, it is a holiday in its own right. Good examples are Mediteranean beach destinations, a mountain retreat or perhaps a fairytale castle getaway. The key thing about these events is the "Holiday" part! If you take away all the Tango you should be left with a holiday. If not, this calendar is not the right place for your event and we kindly ask you to refrain from posting here.- As already mentioned we only allow one event in any one of the 3 main calendars and no duplicates. However if your event meets the above criteria for inclusion you may copy your event to this separate [Tango Holidays] calendar, but only once it already exists in one of the three main calendars! This is important so your event is discoverable from the main calendar & the combinded calendar featuring all three event categories. Failure to do so may lead to your event being overlooked by a large number of visitors so it is in your interest.
We leave it to you to decide which one of the main 3 calendars bests suits your event. Pick the one which will attract the right crowd for your type of event.
Some events such as Festivalitos etc try to cater to a wider audience, but generally this is just a marketing technique and events should not be taken at face value but for what they really are. Strictly speaking any event that combines any sort of workshops / classes is not a Marathon nor an Encuentro and hence, as the name probably suggests, should be placed into the correct calendar, but we will let you have the final say.
When we choose to settling on just 3 main calendars we did so to keep things simple. There is really no need to complicate things any further as almost all Tango events will happily sit in one the three main calendars categories.
Other important things to be mindful about.
These additional tabs contain important criteria relating to geographical Regions associated with events, our OPEN Data Policy as well as Quality & Purity requirments which also need to be adhered to.
-
Every Calendar is split into various regional calendars to allow greater flexibility in terms of filtering. When you request access to post in a particular Calendar you also need to specify the associated geographic region of your events. We use the "Europe subregion map UN geoscheme" as a guide which produces the following:
-
North Europe
Countries: UK, Ireland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.
-
East Europe
Countries: Russian Federation, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic and Poland
-
South Europe
Countries: Spain, Portugal, Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Serbia, Kosovo, Macedonia (F.Y.R.O.M.), Albania, Greece and Turkey (entire territory incl. Asian part)
-
West Europe
Countries: France, Belgium, Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and Austria
-
Other Regions
Other regions beyond the above fall into one of the following:
[ Asia ]﹡﹡, [ Australia & Oceania ], [ Africa ], [ North America ] and [ South America ]
-
Summary
Every calendar could potentially be split into all of the above regions, in theory giving us 10 regional sub-categories and 40 sub-categories (30 for the main Cals & 10 for the Holiday Cal) overall. However this is all behind the scenes and nothing for you to be concerned about.
Most contributors will only ever be posting in one or two calendars covering their main region.
Besides we have not as yet received many requests for some of these regional sub-calendars and will only add them as and when necessary.
Regions
﹡﹡ For the purpose of simplifying placement in our Calendars: The Middle East, which is a transcontinental region centered on Western Asia, Turkey (both Asian and European), and Egypt (which is mostly in North Africa). will fall into the [ 𝙰𝚜𝚒𝚊 ] Calendar and Turkey will fall into the [ South Europe ] Calendar even though parts of its territory are in Asia.
Data Quality
-
Our Calendar is only as good as the quality of data it contains.
As such we kindly ask you to create rich event data and to only import public Facebook events instead of manually creating your own calendar entries. Any poorly formated events, those lacking information or events other than those originating from Facebook may be removed!
Data Purity
-
Inappropriate data of any sort will not be tollerated on our website!
We also have a open data policy which means that we only approve of sharing public data that is already in the public domain. So even if you want to share your own data or data which you are responsible for,
Data Protection
-
We have a strict open data policy! This means we only approve of sharing public data that is already in the public domain. So even if you want to share your own data or data which you are responsible for, make sure it is available in public first prior to sharing on our site!
Forbidden Entries
-
Examples of inappropriate posts include local "Milonga" events or "Weekenders" with invited guest teachers etc where the focus is on Classes & Workshops with the beforementioned. These are not permitted so please refrain from posting such events.
Instead of posting these here you should look for calendars covering local Tango scenes e.g. [London Tango Calendar]. More info about this can be found under the mundo ▾ menu.
Intentionally posting to an incorrect Calendar e.g. Tango Holidays or duplicating entries across more than one calendar is also not allowed. Every event is suited to a single calendar only and you need to decide which one best describes your event. The only possilbe exception being the beforementioned [ Tango Holidays ] calendar. If your event satisfies the criteria for inclusion of this separate calendar you may copy your event there as well, but only once it exists in one of the three main calendars. Otherwise duplicates of any kind are not permitted under any circumstances!
Also any event lacking rich event details which only acts as a redirect to an external website is also strictly not permitted! Events are allowed to have external links back to the organisors site but we do not allow placeholder events that only serve as a redirect i.e. event entries without sufficient event details that are redirect link e.g. "For more details go to 'http://mywebsite.com/event_details.html" The point of our site is for tanguer@s to be able to find all information in one handy place and re-directs defeat this purpose. Please refrain from posting re-directs!
NB As indicated already in the Data Protection tab we do NOT authorise events on our public Calendars that do not already have a corresponding public event i.e. an existing public Facebook event!
If for whatever reason you are still in any doubt about which of the above calendars / regions to use or anything else please ask for clarification!
